Murray Clarke

Murray Clarke (b. 1992, United Kingdom) lives and works in London, England. Clarke graduated from Kingston School of Art in 2019 with an MFA in Fine Art.

Clarke's artistic investigation delves into the conflicting emotions provoked by the commercialization and widespread consumption of fabric and clothing. The artist examines and questions our perceptions and sentiments concerning luxury goods through paintings that display a dual nature: they are simultaneously welcoming and warm, yet also subtly chilly and superficial.

By replicating images, Clarke's work evokes the mass-produced imagery commonly seen in advertising. This departure from the traditional notion of painting as a singular, unique creation underscores how each repetition of the image distances itself further from its original figurative essence.

Painted in a realist style, Clarke's paintings encourage viewers to reevaluate their own perceptions and attitudes.
